Through my art I want to transport my
viewers to the magnificent places I've experienced. I want
them to feel the light, smell the wafting air and hear the
wind. When that magic happens, the painting is complete.
All paintings are completed with
high quality materials and sealed with archival, UV resistant
art varnish. The edges of the canvasses are painted and
staple-free, eliminating the need for framing.

My name is Scott
A. Melby. I have lived in Steelville, Missouri on a century-old
farmstead with my lovely wife and three fantastic children for
over a decade.
Many years ago,
I abandoned a career as a pen-and-ink portrait artist to pursue
other youthful ventures. Though I worked in many artisan-type
fields, I scarcely again produced any two-dimensional artwork.
It was not until recently, many career changes later, and inches
away from receiving my bachelorís degree in geology from
Missouri S&T, that I picked up a paintbrush for the first time
in twenty years. The passion, joy and skill from which I had
walked away so long ago came flooding back tenfold! I have not
been able to stop painting since.
Now, painting is
my obsession. Until I see with my eyes what I see in my head, I
can barely stop even to eat! Through my art I want to transport
my viewers to the magnificent places Iíve experienced: the
vibrant north east, the wide west, the great white north, the
romantic south, Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and of course,
the incomparable Missouri Ozarks! I want them to feel the
light, smell the wafting air and hear the wind. When that magic
happens, the painting is complete. My favorite medium is
acrylic for its colorfast longevity and non-toxicity, and I have
slipped into a comfortable niche somewhere between realism and
impressionism that I hope you will enjoy.
I have come to
believe that true happiness comes from the fulfillment of your
design. Do what you were created to do, and you will feel
wholly alive. It works backwards, too: do what drives your
passion, and you have found your purpose!
